Nah. I dont think that's his reasoning, in fact if you read the whole blog and paid attention to what was being said there's no way you could come this conclusion....well, most wouldn't come to this conclusion. |

Allow players to become UFA sooner
Good compromise imo |

All this will mean is teams will tank hard from day 1 of the season and then buy near the deadline. Keep it the same |

There is one thing I do not like about the idea: not all teams get eliminated at the same time.
If you have 2 equally bad teams in different conferences. The team in the stronger conference is eliminated first. That team will earn more loser points regardless since the other team is mathematicaly still in the run so any points they gain.
To me that system might be plausible but only if we end up in a league wide standings top 16 playoff format. |

Great article, as usual.
However, it is because of the Pittsburgh Penguins who would tank when Mario and Sid were in the draft. This was the NHL's answer to discourage it. Unfortunately, Lady Luck threw a wrench into the system with Edmonton and now New Jersey lately.
I do like your idea of No Draft, though. Cap will govern but also the opportunity for the player on a particular team's needs would keep the rich getting richer. |

People get way too caught up in preventing tanking. There's no reason to. Tanking is fine, and stacks the talent on playoff teams at the deadline for A) a more fun deadline with more player movement and B) a more fun playoff with stronger, deeper teams and more premier talent. It's impossible to have a league where 30+ teams are contention year in and year out. Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good. |

no draft means the orig six teams have a tremendous advantage and cold weather teams and the rust belt teams will have a hard time attracting the top tier talent.
I am pretty sure a majority of teams would hate the result. |

The rangers had good karma I believe. They played balls to the wall every game and it paid off. We were kinda pissed about winning so much. But you can’t tell a group of kids (rangers for the most part) to lose on purpose, it’s just wrong to approach the future that way. |

There's a huge difference between telling players to lose (which no one actually does), and a GM making roster decisions that makes losing as likely as possible for the benefit of the future. I think the Rangers did the latter pretty well short of trading Lundqvist. |

Pens didn’t tank for Sid because there was no NHL season the year before Sid was the draft. |

I’d like a 3-2-1 point system. |

here is what teams should do in order to get the top pick every few years threaten to move when things go bad and your fans don't show up. |

Not necessarily, given the top tier teams will generally be closer to the cap, you’d have to finesse your roster a ton to be able to constantly go after top tier talent. |

I think keeping hank out there this season increased out losses, traidng Gorgiev THAT would have looked like tanking. |

It’s a great idea except declaring yourself out of the race. But in 2019 everything has to be made easy. I couldn’t imagine playing in the nhl for a team that just gives up. I do that once a week now if we’re down by 3 goals and I still kind of irks me. |

To be perfectly honest I haven't followed you guys at all this season so I wouldn't know how bad Hank has tapered off. |

Yea he’s done. Idk if it’s just he knew they sucked and just didn’t compete like he normally does or what, but he was pretty bad all year. He is 37 with copious amounts of games played however, so that would do it. The Hank era is basically over in NYC |

Hockey players are too proud for this. They never purposely want to lose. The owners might want that but the players don't. |
